Professor Greiner co-developed the medical technology program and was instrumental in getting it nationally accredited by NAACLS. She teaches Clinical Microbiology and Clinical Immunohematology on campus and coordinates clinical rotations in these subjects at professional, affiliate laboratories. In addition, she has been an instructor of Clinical Microscopy and Topics in Medical Technology and has team-taught both Hematology and Methods in Medical Technology.
Serving as a professor in the core curriculum, Professor Greiner teaches Human Biology to non-science majors. She has also taught General Microbiology and Parasitology for the Biology Department. She was recognized for teaching excellence and service by the student body in 1995 when she was presented with the Faculty of the Year Award.
Professor Greiner came to Marist College in 1983 after serving as an instructor in the Medical Technology Department at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. While there, she taught Hematology, Clinical Immunohematology, Clinical Microscopy and General Pathology/Histopathology. She received her M.S. in Clinical Laboratory Science through the Department of Pathology, at Michigan State University, prior to teaching there. Her thesis research entailed studying normal and abnormal human placental tissue by immunofluorescence technics and transmission electron microscopy.
Professor Greiner’s undergraduate degree in medical technology is from Douglass College, Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She is native to New Jersey and worked at Muhlenberg Hospital (Plainfield, N.J.) directly after graduation. She was a medical technologist in the Microbiology and Serology Depts. and served as the laboratory instructor of microbiology for students enrolled in the hospital’s school of medical technology.
Professor Greiner is registered as a medical technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. She is also a member of the American Society for Microbiology, Microscopy Society of America and Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society.
Professor Greiner is currently chairperson of the Medical Technology Department. (June, 1999). She is responsible for administrating the medical technology program along with continued teaching in Clinical Microbiology and Clinical Immunohematology. She serves as a principle source of information for prospective students and as a liaison between the college and clinical affiliates. She also coordinates academic and non-academic revisionary activities for the program.
