4. I'm having trouble accessing the video because of a firewall.

Are you accessing the video from work? If so, contact the technical support person in the IT department where you work.

Some companies have hardware firewalls which limit access to some sites and streaming material. If you access the Internet through a proxy server (through a firewall) and are having problems accessing the stream, the following changes may resolve this problem.

Real One (PC) Configuration

  1. Click on "Tools."
  2. Select "Preferences."
  3. Click on the "Proxy" tab.
  4. Under "Streaming Settings" click Change Settings
  5. Make sure the "No Proxy" radio button is selected.
  6. If you know the HTTP proxy address and port number select "Use Proxies" and insert the proxy server address and the correct port number.

Real Player 8 Basic (PC) Configuration

  1. Click on "View." Or right-click over the player control bar.
  2. Select "Preferences."
  3. Click on the "Proxy" tab.
  4. Select the "Use my web browser's HTTP proxy" radio button.
  5. Click "OK."

If you know the HTTP proxy address and port number, follow these directions for Real Player:

  1. In "preferences" (under the "view" menu list) click on the "proxy" tab.
  2. select "Manually configure HTTP proxy"
  3. Insert the proxy server address and the correct port number (possibly 80 or 8080).
  4. Click "OK"

5. Why are there stops or gaps while listening to streaming media?

Poor audio or video quality, excessive buffering, and/or delays in connectivity are usually due to stressed or strained bandwidth on behalf of your ISP and the bandwidth that your ISP has available for Internet connectivity. Many Internet users are probably dialed-in to your ISP, causing congested lines and using up most or all of the bandwidth.

If you are accessing us through a LAN (Local Area Network), you may experience similar problems as a result of the number of users and/or PCs on your LAN. This condition is almost always temporary, and if you try back later, you will usually experience better results.

You may also experience these types of problems when your computer's resources are limited. Try not to run other applications while accessing the audio stream. Viewing additional web pages while listening to the stream may be a cause of audio problems on a 56k connection, since bandwidth is limited.

6. The video appears to be working, but I don't hear anything!

There are several things you can check.

  1. Check the volume on your speakers to be sure you have them turned up.
  2. Double-click on the speaker in your system tray and be sure the volume controls are up and not on mute.
  3. Verify on the player control bar that the volume (on the far right) is turned up there as well.
  4. Make sure your speakers are connected to your computer (a loose connection may result in no sound) and turned on.
